Corner of Morris and Smith

the morning air was quiet and still

I could hear birds chirping

and the soft sound of car tires

slowly rolling over ice

everything was still, as if

time stopped

the tea in my hands

released billows of little steam clouds

and I pondered the thought of mercy

I know that it must be renewed

whenever the sun rises

because surely the Lord was there that morning

at the corner of Morris at Smith
